The Ohio National Guard has requested that we share with you information about the first-ever Ohio National Guard "Leadership Camp," which will take place this summer. We continue to grow our partnership with Ohio National Guard thru Operation Buckeye Guard and I am hoping football coaches will see the benefit of the Army National Guard helping you with developing leadership skills in you student athletes. The Army National Guard mailed the information packet to athletic directors statewide, but the Army National Guard want to ensure that football coaches also have the opportunity to nominate their student-athletes for this amazing opportunity.
WHAT: Leadership Camp
WHEN: Tuesday, 18JUN19
WHERE: Camp Sherman Joint Training Center, Chillicothe
WHO: Student-athletes nominated by HS Coach or AD
REMARKS: Nomination forms are due 13MAR19; nominated student-athletes will be sent invitations; RSVPs/waivers must be received for students to participate.
Alijah Curtis will be presented with the Art Teynor Award by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association at our annual awards banquet on February 8th at the Hilton Columbus Easton.
The Art Teynor Award is awarded to the top player in the state and considers athletic, academic, and character components in the selection process.
Alijah will be the 23rd recipient of the annual award and he was selected from the 16 regional finalists based upon the OHSFCA regions. Alijah is the first Stark County player to win the award since Kenny Peterson (Canton McKinley) won it in 1997. Other notable winners include:
Ben Roethlisburger (Findlay High School) in 1999
Ted Ginn Jr. (Glenville High School) in 2003
Mitch Trubisky (Mentor High School) in 2012
The 2018 Academic All Ohio Teams and Individual Awards have been announced.
