We have continued to repeat the message that we are here to serve our membership, the game of football, and those who play it.
I would argue that these fluid and unprecedented times have renewed our passion for the game, the kids who play it, and how important the game of football is to our communities. The anxiety, frustration, and concerns all of you have for the game of football during this challenging time in our lives is real. Your concerns, suggestions, and desire for the game are NOT taken lightly. The recent recommendations by some county health departments the last 48 hours has only thrown gasoline onto the fire.
Here’s the latest updates and reminders:
The Lt Governor’s office has reached out to the OHSFCA. We have a scheduled conference call with him set for August 4th.
In the press conference last Wednesday, the Governor said more information needs to be gathered before any decisions are going to be made.
The OHSAA continues to be adamant for the August 1 start.
Beau Rugg continues to reassure us that we will have a ‘seat at the table’ if / when adjustments are made to the football season.
If the Governor or OHSAA say no football this fall, that will be the most prudent time for the OHSFCA to share our recommendations as to what the next step should be, NOT beforehand.
We are communicating what we know. The OHSFCA is being proactive. Our discussions continue to be about serving our members, the game, and those who play it. If you have questions, concerns, suggestions, please contact your Region Director. We will always continue to gather information from our membership, and do our best to make decisions/recommendations that are in the best interests of the game.

We are pleased to announce that the OHSAA today passed the OHSFCA Playoff Expansion proposal for the fall of 2021. We appreciate the hard work of our association’s Playoff Committee, along with the participation of all those who took part in the surveys that provided guidance for the proposal.
Concerning the Spring Evaluation proposal, it has been tabled for further discussion.
Secondly, we have no updates to provide for you at this time regarding the “no-contact” period. We have been told guidelines will be forthcoming regarding the Governor’s statements last week. Hopefully, this will happen sooner rather than later.
As soon as we have any relevant information concerning football during these unprecedented times, it will be shared with you.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

The Ohio High School Football Coaches Association’s main priority is the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, event staff, fans, volunteers and media.
With this in mind, the OHSFCA has made the decision to cancel the North South Classic scheduled for April 25th, 2020 in Massillon at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
We appreciate the support of BSN, the city of Massillon, VisitCanton, the Cheerleading Coaches, and the numerous volunteers who have given their time and efforts to ensure another great environment for the longest running high school football all-star game in the country.
We look forward to the OHSFCA North-South Classic returning in 2021.
Yours In Football,
