FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dear OHSFCA Members:
Recently members of the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association (OHSFCA) met with the OHSAA board. Our meeting was an attempt to seek a pause to the 16 team playoff expansion that is to take effect at the end of the 2021 high school football regular season. We were asking the OHSAA to revert back to the original 12 team playoff proposal. The 12 team playoff model was reflective of nearly 70% of our member coaches. Despite this attempt, the OHSAA has voted to continue with the 16 team playoff system. We are disappointed with this outcome, however, we will continue to work towards the goals that reflect our members, are supportive of student athletes, and uphold the integrity of the game of football. Thank you to those that reached out and voiced their concerns to the OHSFCA and to the OHSAA board members considering this issue.
The OHSFCA Playoff Committee
Due to the lack of referees being available for our annual OHSFCA 7 on 7 and Lineman Challenge on June 12th, 2021, we are forced to cancel this event. We look forward to being able to provide this event in the future.
We will still be holding the class of 2021 banquet June 11th at 6PM (cash bar), 7PM will be the dinner and introduction at 8PM and the class of 2020 banquet is scheduled for June 12th at 6PM (cash bar), 7PM will be the dinner and introduction at 8PM at the Easton Hilton.
We appreciate your understanding of the decision to cancel our 7 on 7 and Lineman Challenge.
Yours In Football,
APRIL 23, 2021
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OHIO HIGH SCHOOL
FOOTBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION:
The decision by the OHSAA to expand to a 16 team playoff format is met with complete dismay by the OHSFCA. The OHSAA failed to work in good faith with our association. The OHSFCA worked for over two years to create a viable expansion of the playoff system. The OHSFCA proposed the playoff expansion to 12 teams in January of 2020. The OHSAA approved this expansion in the spring of 2020 for the 2021 season. We are extremely disappointed in yesterday’s vote by the OHSAA without consulting the OHSFCA. It is abundantly clear that this decision is financially motivated.
The OHSFCA remains committed to working with the OHSAA and anyone else who is committed to maintaining the high standards of Ohio High School Football.
